Children with atopic dermatitis

Primaderma 2018, Dermatology and the borderline specialties.

Presentation of our clinical experience in treating children with atopic dermatitis.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease which affects 10-20% of newborns and infants in developed countries.

Dr Tsoukalas presented the application of Precision Medicine in children with atopic dermatitis, at the 7th International Conference of dermatology and borderline specialties in Iași.

Results from 30 children with atopic dermatitis that did not respond to standard therapeutic actions were presented. Metabolic imbalances that were related to the disease were detected through Metabolomic Analysis®.

The therapeutic plan was based on the test results and included:
  • Restoration of nutrient deficiencies.
  • Dietary patterns according to the metabolic profile of the children.
The skin lesions were improved in a few weeks after the initiation of the treatment plan, in most children.

Conclusion
Metabolomics can be a valuable tool of precision medicine in children with atopic dermatitis.
